Phila. Greyhound Connection Saves Dogs Lives

by KYW’s John McDevitt

Rescued Greyhound racers are giving other dogs a second chance at life.

Greyhounds typically have a universal blood type that can be used by other breeds.  Some Greyhounds donate four to five pints a year.

The Philadelphia Greyhound Connection or PGC has been working with Hickory Veterinary Hospital in Plymouth Meeting to help dogs that needed blood.

PGC 's Executive Director Cheryl Vona:

"They would call when they needed it and we would bring the dogs and they would take blood. There is no specific time period but its something that is always in need.”

And there are many greyhounds in need of a good home. The Philadelphia Greyhound Connection placed about 260 dogs since December of 2003.
