More than a hundred and colleges and universities, including Penn, are taking part in a nationwide contest designed to educate young people about the benefits of recycling.
"Recyclemania" runs through April 1st, says Penn's Lauri Cusart:
"Each week, each college reports to 'Recyclemania' on their website, the total volume of their total waste and their total recyclables. And the winner is determined by the ratio of the volume of what is collected to the population of the school."
Penn's first entry was a trash mountain on the college green. But Cusart says they're focusing more on awareness than winning the contest.
