US Olympic Gymnast Trials to be Held in Philadelphia

by KYW's Michelle Durham

The road to the Summer Olympics in Beijing will go through Philadelphia -- literally -- in a few months.

The Olympic trials to see who makes the US gymnastics team will take place at the Wachovia Center from June 19th to 22nd.

A special preview took place on Wednesday at 30th Street Station. Local gymnasts (above) performed, and legendary coach Bela Karolyi (right), who coached Nadia Comaneci, explained what he looks for in a gymnast:

"Not just the physical abilities, but that they be hard! Are they going for it? If they are performing under the pressure..."

One of the gymnasts with a good shot to make the team is Darlene Hill from Mt. Laurel, NJ, who is thrilled that her family and friends will get to see her take a shot at her Olympic dream:

"I'm not known to go to competitions and have my family there because I travel around the world. But it feels good that I can come to Philadelphia and actually have some people there to support me."

Tickets to the Olympic trials at the Wachovia Center are on sale now.
