Designing a Garden Bed

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you’re determined to plant your first flower garden this spring but are overwhelmed with how to begin the process, here are some tips.

First, decide where you’re going to plant the garden. Take into consideration how much sun your garden will need and the location of the garden in relationship to your house, especially if you are planning to use vegetables or want to be able to see the garden from indoors.

Second, figure out the size and shape of the garden bed. Do you want it to be geometrical or more of an island shaped bed? How will this shape fit in with the rest of the property? In order to play around with size and shape, use a hose, bamboo sticks or spray paint to configure a temporary bed.
