Tips on Selecting Roses

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you’re a rose lover, as I am, then you know that selecting the right rose for a specific spot in your garden takes a bit of knowledge.

Although most roses do thrive in full sun, there are some roses that do well in partial shade, which is a huge bonus if you want to plant climbers on the north side of your home.

Secondly, roses have a varying frequency and types of blooms.  Symbols such as: R, O, stand for Repeat or Once Blooming and Fr stands for Fragrance. If you’re buying at a store, read labels carefully and if you’re purchasing online, be sure to know all the symbols associated with the rose that you are interested in.
