Local Divorce Lawyer Offers Advice for Heartache

by KYW’s Michelle Durham

A Japanese cosmetics firm announced this week that they would give employees who are suffering through a break-up a three day "heartache leave." a local attorney shares her opinion on whether this would be a good idea here in the US.

Divorce attorney Lynne Gold Bickin sees devastated clients all day long.  But she has some questions about this three day heartache leave:

"When do you suffer from the break-up? Do you suffer when you find out he's having an affair? Do you suffer when you get home and you find out she's left the house with the kids? Or do you suffer when you go to court or when the decree is handed down?"

So when would you take the leave?

“The worst time is probably when you find out you're getting divorced."

She says it takes some time to absorb the shock to your system. Her advice after the shock has worn off?

"Well, if we're talking about women, I'd send her to beauty parlor and to the gym to get herself in shape for the next one."

And what should men do?

“For men, go to the barbershop, trim your beard if you have one, and then go get drunk."

Oh yes, breaking up is hard to do.
