Phila. 'Soul' Sex Assault Allegations Dropped

by KYW's Mark Abrams

The Kansas City, Mo. Police Department is dropping its investigation of a reported March 14th sexual assault which the victim alleged involved members of the Philadelphia Soul Arena League Football team.

Kansas City Police Captain Rich Lockhart says the 23-year-old victim told detectives during an interview Thursday that she did not want to pursue the prosecution of a rape case and that she would no longer cooperate with the investigation:

"At this point she's requested that we close the investigation and we'll be honoring that request and the investigation as we have it now is closed and it will not proceed any further."

Lockhart says five members of the Soul were interviewed and cooperated with police, even voluntarily offering DNA samples -- all of which will now be destroyed.

He says the players were not considered suspects and were allowed to leave Kansas City after speaking with investigators.

Lockhart wouldn't disclose what they said during police interviews, saying all that material will be destroyed, as well.
