New Pa. Budget Pleases Mayor Nutter

by KYW's Mike Dunn

Among those applauding in Harrisburg when Governor Rendell delivered his new budget was Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.

Mayor Nutter made the trip to Harrisburg to hear Rendell's budget address first hand, and he later gave it two thumbs-up:

"Having a safe city, and a well educated city -- it doesn't get much better than that."

Nutter was referring to the Governor's plan to fund 100 more police officers, and to increase state education funding by six percent, the largest hike in decades:

"We're not investing enough money in public education all across the Commonwealth, its not just a Philadelphia issue. And I'm very excited about the proposal that the Governor has put forward. I hope the General Assembly will support him. There's no better investment of a dime than public education."

Nutter also met with the legislative leaders who will now debate that budget.
