House Collapse Shakes Queen Village Neighborhood

by KYW's John McDevitt

Philadelphia fire officials are continuing to investigate what caused a Queen Village home to collapse and catch on fire Thursday afternoon.

Just before 4:00 p.m. Roy Dillon was driving his van across the intersection of 6th and Bambridge when he says he heard a whistle then saw the collapse of the three story building in the 700 block of 6th Street.  He said he slammed on the brakes and ran over to the house:

"I just ran to see if anybody was in this rubble right here...maybe pull them out if there was...and then I didn't see anyone, so as I dialed 911 there were a bunch of other people screaming, 'is anybody in there is anybody in there?'  but we didn't hear nothing.  There was no fire in the beginning, then the fire kicked up."

Officials say no one was injured.  Neighboring homes and cars were damaged.
