Rosemary

by KYW's Fran Sorin

The other day when rushing through a big box store, I happened to pass a cart that had a delightful rosemary plant on it, which I knew that I had to have once I rubbed its aromatic leaves between my fingers.

This rosemary plant is now perched on my kitchen counter next to my stovetop.  I’ll use snippets of it for seasoning certain dishes. Outside of culinary uses, rosemary has been used as far back as ancient Greece when physicians prescribed it to help alleviate several mental illnesses. Rosemary was also used at weddings in the Middle Ages where it acted as a symbol of fidelity and remembrance.

You can make sure that its fragrances are emitted throughout the house by clipping its leaves and placing them in small containers alone or with other fragrances as potpourris.
