Catholics in New Jersey will hear a special message from the pulpit this weekend, in support of marriage.
That this is occurring just after Valentine's Day is simply a "happy coincidence", says Camden Bishop Joseph Galante, but it's something more like worry that prompted New Jersey's six bishops and one archbishop to issue the joint letter.
These challenges include the divorce rate and proposed changes in the very definition of marriage. Bishop Galante says the letter calls for reflection on the true nature of marriage and he urges couples to bring:
"A greater sensitivity to one another, a greater sense of forgetfulness of self, and the whole question of prayer since it is a sacrament. It is an opportunity for growth in grace in relationship to Jesus."
The letter is to be read in Masses this weekend throughout the state.
