Nutter Wants to Apply the 'Golden Rule' to City Hall

by KYW's Mike Dunn

Mayor Nutter is promising a more customer-friendly City Hall, but he also is cautioning citizens that being treated well works both ways.

Mayor Nutter says he intends to run his government like a corporation with respect to customer service.  And while he promises that city workers will be friendlier, Nutter says you give what you get:

"Quite honestly, sometimes the public is not as nice as they could be when they encounter a public employee.  All of this is about how we treat each other.  It doesn't cost anything to be nice to someone.  It doesn't cost anything to demonstrate mutual respect.  Treat people the way you want to be treated."

Nutter's specific plans include streamlining citizen questions and complaints through a 311 system and tracking those calls to make sure there was follow-up.
