KYW's Ian Bush reports a shooting on a subway platform by Septa police officers has sent one man to the hospital.

The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Allegheny Avenue station of the Broad Street subway.

A spokesman for the transit agency said two plain-clothes officers were riding a northbound Broad Street subway, when they spotted a man smoking in between cars.

When the man would not comply when asked him to stop smoking, the Septa cops took him off the train at the Allegheny Avenue station.

Officials said he got away, and pulled a gun on the officers. One of the Septa cops shot him in the shoulder.

The man, said to be in his 20s, was taken to Temple University Hospital in serious condition.

Shuttle buses were used for a few hours between the Girard and Erie subway stations while the investigation got under way.

KYW's Jim Melwert reports the shooting was the latest incident in a string of violence, prompting the Philadelphia Police Department to work with Septa's transit cops.

Inspector Joe Sullivan, commanding officer of the Northwest Police Division, said they would pool resources with Septa in hopes of covering more ground.

"We're going to provide Philadelphia police officers to work hand-in-hand with Septa officers, and we're going to share communications, so that we're in constant contact with one another, so that we can utilize the same amount of people to cover more ground," Sullivan said.

There have been several recent incidents on the Broad Street line.

Two teens were attacked -- one of them robbed -- in seperate incidents in the last week.
