Mayor, Councilman Consider Burying Hatchet

by KYW’s Mike Dunn

Two bitter political enemies -- Mayor Street and Councilman-at-large Jim Kenney -- are having lunch, though neither is necessarily ready to bury the hatchet.

Jim Kenney has been, over the past few years, one of the most vocal critics of the Mayor. But Democratic Party Chief Bob Brady has managed to convince him to sit down for lunch with the Mayor:

“We haven’t had a good relationship obviously since he’s been Mayor. Friends of mine advised me it would be appropriate to break bread and see if something could come about.”

Q: “What is it you hope to gain?”

Kenney: “Tasty food.”

Q: “When was the last time you had lunch with him?”

Kenney: “Never.”

Mayor Street, for his part, is conciliatory:

“Jim Kenney cares about a lot of the same things I care about. And we probably ought to spend more time talking about it.”

No word yet on who picks up the check:

Street: “Not me! I don’t know who’s going to pick up the check! I don’t know.”
