Phila. Teen Shot After Snowball Fight

by KYW's Al Novack

A friendly snowball fight among friends on Sunday afternoon escalated into gunfire when a neighbor was hit in the face by a snowball.

Police say the neighbor went home and came back minutes later with a gun, then shot the 16-year-old snowball thrower in the head and fled.

Investigators say it happened just after 4:30pm on Sunday in the 4800 block of "D" Street, in the Feltonville section of Philadelphia. Sixteen-year-old Tavin Rutledge and a friend were  having a friendly snowball fight when a passing neighbor was hit in the face by one of the snowballs.

The neighbor voiced a few angry words, left, and returned minutes later with a gun.  The suspect is alleged to have fired one shot at point-blank range which struck the teen in the head. As of Monday morning he was on life support in extremely poor condition. Sunday was Rutledge's 16th birthday.

The gunman then fled and remained at large as of early Monday morning.
