Drexel Students Help Phila. HS Kids Start a Newspaper

by KYW's Karin Phillips

Drexel University Law School students have given constitutional law lessons to Philadelphia high school students who want to start a newspaper.

Students from Drexel University Law School's Pro Bono Program have been working with aspiring journalists from West Philadelphia High School who plan to start their own newspaper, the first in a decade. Karen Pearlman is public interest law coordinator at Drexel College of Law:

"At Drexel, we have a unique opportunity built into our curriculum through the Pro Bono Program to get out of the classroom and into the community. And so for, this particular program at West Philly, our students learn about constitutional law and the right to free speech and then they got to bring that information into the community directly to the high school students who can use it in a real and meaningful way."

The Drexel students say they will offer their continued support to the budding journalists.
