Youth Soccer Coach Headed to Prison for Sending Sex Texts

by KYW's Brad Segall

A youth soccer coach from Montgomery County is headed to state prison after pleading guilty to sending sexually explicit text messages to a teenage girl he met at a summer soccer camp. (See Previous Story)

23-year-old Benjamin Evans will spend three-and-a-half to seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to unlawful contact with a minor and attempted sex charges. The Blue Bell, Pa. man admitted in court he had text conversations with the 13-year-old girl he coached at a camp at Temple’s Ambler campus.

Prosecutor Todd Stephens says Evans took advantage of his position…

“The thing that really struck me is he’s talking about skills in terms of sexual skills when he’s supposed to be teaching her soccer skills and that’s what’s really troubling to me…the context in which they met.”

The girl’s mother found the text messages and called police. Detectives set up a sting operation and Evans was arrested when he showed up at a Horsham convenience store to meet the teen for sex. He’s also required to register under Megan’s Law.
