The University of Pennsylvania professor who last week was called a "suspect" in his wife’s beating death last month was expected to surrender Monday afternoon to authorities in Upper Merion.
Prosecutors were planning to charge Dr. Rafael Robb with murder in connection with his wife’s death inside their Wayne home three days before Christmas.
In a search warrant affidavit released last week, prosecutors said they believe Robb (in background of photo, wearing cap) killed his estranged wife Ellen, 49, then made it look like a break-in.
Defense attorney Frank Genovese says at this point it’s all circumstantial evidence:
"It’s also very circumstantial evidence against my client, at least to this point in time. Again, I don’t know at this point if forensic evidence came back that led the DA to believe they had enough evidence to move forward with charging him at this point in time.”
And Genovese (foreground of photo) thinks prosecutors may be moving too fast:
"Perhaps the district attorney has some evidence that he believes points to Dr. Robb’s guilt above and beyond what he’s released so far, but Dr. Robb has expected this, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to us.”
Genovese says Robb has been concerned about his 12-year-old daughter and making sure she was taken care of in the event that he was charged.
Last week prosecutors labeled Robb their main suspect (see previous story), saying he had opportunity and motive (see previous story #2).
