It's that time of year. The New Year's resolutions have been made, and the health club memberships have been purchased. Now, it's time to get that physical examination.
I won't argue with that idea. After all, preventive medicine is the best medicine. But what should you do to prepare yourself to get the most out of the exam?
The first thing I'd recommend is that you make a list of questions. Everybody has different questions, but think about the things that bother you: certain aches and pains, certain foods that seem to cause heartburn, perhaps concern about whether to take certain herbs or vitamins.
The bottom line -- think about it before you go.
One more thing -- try to share your health goals with your doctor. He or she may have helpful tips. And talk about your family's health issues. The odds are strong that some of these health issues will become your own.
