Avenue of the Arts Will Come Alive in 2008-2009 Season

by KYW's Lauren Lipton

The Kimmel Center has come out with its 2008-2009 season. Anne Ewers (right), president and CEO of the Kimmel Center, says this town is going to rock:

"There is something for everyone in what we offer. Nine different series. Let's look at Broadway (the Kimmel Center's Broadway series). There we are, with 'Spring Awakening.'  Eight Tony awards, including best musical. 'Chorus Line.'  'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.' "

And Ewers wonders sometimes if people realize we have a world-class dance company in Philadanco.

Also this season, conductor Gustavo Dudamel (top photo) is making his Philadelphia debut:

(Ewers:)  "To be bringing Dudamel, who is the hottest young conductor worldwide, with the Israeli Philharmonic, is unbelievable."

And that's not all, says Ewers. There is the 50th anniversary tribute to the Miles Davis jazz classic, "A Kind of Blue." And Kodo drummers. And more.

"There is nothing that can take the place of a live performance.  One of my favorite posters of all time said, 'When was the last time you stood up and applauded your television set?' "
