The Nutter Administration's promise to open up its new "PhillyStat" meetings to the public has a very big asterisk next to it.
Managing Director Camille Barnett has begun regular meetings called "PhillyStat," and last month she promised that anyone could attend:
"The meetings are public, so people can come to them."
But in the weeks that followed, reporters were only been invited to one "PhillyStat" meeting, the rest have been off limits to the public.
The Mayor's spokesman, Doug Oliver, says they will remain closed until at least mid-April, to give department heads who are not used to this process some time:
"We're still in a planning process of how PhillyStat will work, how 3-1-1 will work in Philadelphia, and we're excited to have something announced on it very soon."
At "PhillyStat," department heads are asked by Barnett to account for their performance.
Mayor Nutter, as a candidate and in office, has promised an "open and transparent" government.
