The young movie director who found himself in hot water on Friday after making some raucous remarks to students at Hatboro-Horsham High School has issued an online apology and explanation.

In his "blog" at Supersizeme.com, documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock says many of his comments were misinterpreted by faculty.

On Monday morning, students at the school got a postscript talk from their principal, over the school's public address system, and a letter was being sent home to parents after Spurlock's profanity-laced assembly remarks last Friday stirred controversy.

Spurlock, director of the documentary "Super Size Me," was invited to speak to students last Friday about what it was like to eat McDonald's food for 30 days straight.

Instead, Keith, an 11th grader, says the speech went in another direction:

"It was vulgar, racist.  It made fun of anything. It pretty much had nothing to do with what his movie was about."

School officials say that in addition to insulting McDonald's employees, Spurlock, 35, also made derogatory remarks about special ed students in the back of the auditorium (see related story).

Ashley, a senior at Hatboro-Horsham, says Spurlock's comments may have been a bit racy but weren't meant to hurt anyone:

"I don't think he meant any harm by it, really, because he doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would set out to hurt people like that."

School superintendant Bill Lessa says after talking with students about Spurlock's remarks, the district now wants to put the whole incident behind it.
