Arson Fires Scorch Dozens of Cars in Camden County, NJ

by KYW's Al Novack

Police in South Jersey on Monday were investigating three weekend arson fires at three auto dealerships along Route 73.

Police and fire investigators are trying to determine if a so-called fire bug -- in other words -- an arsonist, is on the loose in the wake of arson fires at auto dealerships overnight and on Saturday.

On Saturday night, a number of new cars were set on fire at Holman Ford in Mount Laurel, NJ and Elkins Chevrolet in Marlton.

Early on Monday, a dozen cars were set on fire at Chevrolet 73 in Berlin. Damage is estimated at nearly $100,000.

The suspicious fires are all under investigation. Police had no initial suspects and did not know if the three arson fires were all linked. There were no injuries reported in any of the fires.
