W. Conshohocken Constable Charged with Abusing His Powers

by KYW's Brad Segall

A West Conshohocken man is under arrest in Montgomery County, accused of abusing his position as an elected constable in that town.

Prosecutors allege that Michael Solow on two occasions last August abused the powers of his position.

Court papers reveal that he evicted a family from their West Conshohocken home and threatened to arrest them if they returned home -- even though no eviction papers were filed.

He is also accused of illegally searching a house in Horsham, Pa.

Montgomery County district attorney Risa Ferman says Solow now faces charges of "official oppression":

"The crux of the official oppression charge is that someone has perverted the administration of justice. Why would someone do that? It’s really hard to say. Some people get so carried away with the authority of their positions that they abuse them.”

A judge has signed an order temporarily relieving Solow of his duties until a full hearing can be held.

Prosecutors say Solow was involved in several incidents that called his character into question when he was a constable in Ambler, Pa. back in the mid-'90s.
