Oprah

by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert

Thirteen-year-old Oprah has many interests, including sports and reading. But she says her passion is music.  She loves to sing, especially in her church choir:

"My pastor is a good pastor; he helps me every day."

Church plays a very prominent role in Oprah's life, according to her recruiter, Tamara Reddick:

"Oprah is religious. That's very important to her. In choosing a family, that is on thing she has verbalized."

Tamara says Oprah can be guarded at first, but once she trusts someone she's very loyal:

"It will take a while for her to warm up, but once she warms up she does have a smile -- she'll brighten up the room once she gets to that point."

Tamara says Oprah is at such an important age for a girl, and she needs -- and deserves -- a permanent family:

"With Oprah at age 13, her having certain questions about herself and about the world around her, and classmates and things. She needs to be somewhere where she can feel  comfortable to ask those questions."
