Online Tutoring

by KYW's Dr. Marciene Mattleman

Brooklyn resident Barry Reichman, a college professor and his wife, Ann, an actuary, have three children and eight grandchildren.  For one of their sons, years back, they used a high priced tutor.

Looking at the busy lives of kids today, they decided to develop an online tutoring service, reasonably priced, with one-to-one instruction in math, described in New York’s March MetroKids.

TutorialChannel.com works on a subscription basis, offering two half-hour sessions per week for a fee of $100 per month. Sessions can be 15 minutes or an hour. Neighbors sometimes share the time.

On signing up, you get access to a site, with a pad on one side, so that tutors and students can write and speak. Using a webcam, tutors can see and talk to their students. A really good feature is a list of tutors with vignettes and photos. You can select your own tutor.

Open tutorialchannel.com to find information regarding diagnostic and practice tests, videos and other materials for math help, with subjects ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade.

I might try calculus!
