Drexel Students Clean-Up Portion of Fairmount Park

by KYW's John Ostapkovich

A couple hundred Drexel students and alumni are got down and dirty Saturday, in a volunteer clean-up in Fairmount Park.

Drexel has had a variety of events for its Earth Week observances but this one, a week after Drexel people took part along with thousands of others in the citywide cleanup, involves garden gloves and mud boots.

Frank Cymbala, co-chair of the park clean-up, says the focus is a trail behind the Mann Music Center:

"We're going to clean. We're going to remove but we're also going to plant. We're going to put trees in and we're going to put shrubs in."

But Cymbala says the idea is to take away more than trash, and knowledge; it’s sort of field work for Urban Environment 101. Don't know if there's a quiz later on.

The clean-up ran from 9am to 2pm Saturday.
