Do Not Call Political Solicitations

by KYW's Amy Feldman

Hillary Clinton’s campaign ad, in which she asks the question whom we want to answer the phone in the White House in an emergency at 3:00 am leads many of us to think: not I!  Why does my phone keep ringing with solicitations for all the political candidates?  What happened to the do not call list that I signed up for?

Even if you’ve signed up for the do not call list, you may still find your phone ringing with solicitations. That’s because political solicitations were specifically excluded from coverage in the do not call list by the politicians who created the list in the first place (go figure).  Telemarketers calling to solicit charitable contributions—including those to political campaigns or causes are also not covered, although if you don’t want to receive any more calls, you can specifically ask the organization not to call you again, a request which they must honor or face up to an $11,000 fine.

As for whom you want to answer the phone in the White House - now that’s a question that you can decide.
