Downingtown Country Club, Here to Stay

by KYW's Ed Abrams

Just a few years ago, Reading Country Club was saved from a developer's bulldozers. And now there is another course that has come back from life support: Downingtown Country Club.

Last year it appeared that Downingtown was headed for  development, but the township ultimately said no, guaranteeing the club's future as a golf course.

And PGA professional Pete Lovenguth says no one can deny the quality of the layout:

"It's an old traditional golf course -- a George Fazio layout, tree-lined fairways, undulating greens -- a true test of golf.  You really have to think your way around out here. And it's in great shape."

Tree clearing and the addition of some bunkers in recent years made a strong course even more of a test. And considerable money has been put into the clubhouse -- all creating  quite a buzz around there:

"Just an air of excitement.  We know that Downingtown is here to stay. We have the full support of our owner and it's just exciting to be a golf course."

And for a Golfshots course sampler, presented by Buick, join me Sunday night at 6:00pm on Comcast Sportsnet.
