Drivers who use I-95 northbound between I-676 (Vine Street) and the Street Road exit will have to find an alternate route between 1pm and 3pm on Friday.
The northbound lanes on the highway will be shut down during those hours for the procession of slain Philadelphia police officer Stephen Liczbinski.
KYW's Brad Segall reports that Pennsylvania officials in Bensalem (Bucks County) are making preparations for Friday’s funeral for slain Philadelphia police officer Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski.
Following noontime funeral services at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, the procession will make its way to Bucks County, where Sgt. Liczbinski will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem (see related story).
Bensalem public safety director Fred Harran says that should happen during the mid-afternoon hours and will mean road closures and delays near the cemetery on Hulmeville Road. He says his men will be working but still paying tribute to a fallen colleague:
“You hear it over and over again, news just plays it over and over again. It is a brotherhood and a family, and when an officer gets killed in the line of duty or hurt or shot or anything of that nature, you do feel it.”
Bensalem borders Philadelphia, and Harran says they have many of the same problems and he says many of his officers know cops in Philadelphia.
The school district is also working on alternate routes for some of its buses. Many Bensalem schools were closing early on Friday.
Bensalem High School was dismissing at 11:45am. The Shafer and Snyder middle schools were letting students out at 12:15pm.
All elementary schools and AM kindergartens were closing at 1pm.
