Tri-State Officials Approve Safety Agreement With Facebook

by KYW's Tony Romeo

Law enforcement officials from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware are among those who’ve signed on to an agreement with Facebook designed to make the social networking site safer for young users.

The agreement with Facebook is similar to one reached with MySpace in January.

Eric Shirk is a spokesman for Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett:

“Well, specifically, Facebook has agreed that they’re going to maintain a list of pornographic websites, and cut any links that come up on their site for it.”

Facebook has also agreed to remove groups for incest, pedophilia, cyber-bullying and other violations of the site’s terms, and will expel members who violate those terms.

Facebook will also provide automatic warning messages when a child is in danger of giving personal information to an unknown adult.

Facebook will also join an industry wide task force that is exploring and developing age and identity verification tools.
