The latest list of most popular baby names looks a lot like the last, and the one before that.
Emily is the top girls name for the 12th year in a row, says the Social Security Administration, which keeps track of every Tom, Dick, and Harriet that it can. Jacob was top of the ladder for boys for the ninth straight year.
But not everyone goes with the flow.
When Tracy, pushing her five-month-old daughter's stroller through Old City on Tuesday, was negotiating names with her husband, common was right out. They wanted...
"Original. It's feminine, It's a little nostalgic, It's unique."
And it's...?
"Tabitha Blue."
Tabitha was number 558 last year, down from 204 in 1993. Blue, which is a play on Grandma Beatrice's name, is nowhere in the top 1,000.
"We wanted her to be the only one in her class with that name."
She's off to a good start.
