Cruise Ship Video Shows NJ Woman Falling Overboard

by KYW's Matt Leon

Norwegian Cruise Lines has has released a statement that video surveillance aboard the "Norwegian Dawn" indicates that a Pine Hill, NJ woman was alone in her stateroom when she fell overboard from a balcony of the cruise ship. Mindy Jordan, 46, is presumed dead.  Her family members had wondered if her death was the result of foul play.

According to a written statement, the cruise line says that surveillance video shows that Jordan fell overboard and was not pushed.

The statement says that Jordan and her boyfriend, Jorge Caputo, dined at a restaurant on board the ship, returning to their stateroom at approximately 7:28pm Sunday evening.  The cruise line says the video then shows that eight minutes later, Caputo left his stateroom to join friends in the stateroom next door, leaving Jordan alone.

Then, at 7:53pm, according to the cruise line, exterior surveillance cameras show Jordan falling overboard from her balcony.

Shortly thereafter, the cruise line says, an emergency call was made from the friend’s stateroom and Caputo is seen exiting to seek help.

The cruise line says it has offered to make arrangements for Mindy Jordan's family to join the ship in Bermuda on Thursday to view the surveillance video.

KYW's John McDevitt reports that FBI agents conducted an investigation aboard the ship on Wednesday.

Four days after the Pine Hill (Camden County), NJ woman went overboard from a cruise ship en route to Bermuda, FBI agents (right) went on board to conduct an investigation.

Most of those on board the Norwegian Cruise Lines ship the "Norwegian Dawn" were allowed to disembark in Bermuda. But not the potential witnesses. FBI agents boarded the ship, hoping to find out how Mindy Jordan, 46, went overboard (see previous story).

Tari Trott is a reporter for the Royal Gazette in Bermuda:

"I was speaking with one of the crew members, and they did mention that there was some video footage that they knew about. As far as what it shows and where is it now, I was unable to ascertain that."

Jordan was on the ship with her boyfriend of 2½ years, Jorge Caputo (in photo at right). They lived together in Caputo's home in Pine Hill, where Jordan had moved from nearby Clementon.

The cruise company says Jordan was trying to climb from one exterior balcony on Deck 9 to another when she went into the sea.
