A Vacation Cruise to Beautiful Bermuda

This week, a cruise ship tragedy (see related story) focuses attention on voyaging to Bermuda, just as Jay Lloyd is lining up his own Bermuda getaway reservations.

Barring foul play or foolishness, modern ocean cruising is as safe a way to travel as any. And the two months that are best to head out to Bermuda are May and September.

Having lived on the island for nearly five years, I recall a saying: “When the longtails return, it’s time to go for a swim.”

Well, those tropical birds known as longtails are back, and the unique pink sand beaches are calling the early visitors.

(Vacationer:)  “And going swimming with the different colors of the water and the sand. And taking our lives in our hands with the motor scooters.”

Now, talk about risky! Tourists can't rent cars in Bermuda, but are encouraged to try the little motor scooters. They are easy to drive, as long as you can handle the simple throttle and brakes.

And remember that in Bermuda, you drive on the lefthand side of some very narrow and winding roads -– and that bikes and Bermuda rum swizzles are a dangerous combination.

Cruises are now booking -- right out of Philadelphia!
