Phillies Host 130 Women for ''Baseball 101'' Clinic

by KYW's Paul Kurtz

It was Ladies Only at the ballpark in South Philadelphia on Wednesday, as the Phillies hosted their annual "Baseball 101" clinic for women.

Some of them came with big dreams:

"Oh, I'm hoping I get signed today! (laughs)"

This two-hour clinic taught 130 women the basics of baseball, but most of them were more excited about seeing what life in the big leagues is like on the inside.

"Gosh, you gotta be kidding me!  We come here to these games, we watch these guys on the field, and it's just awesome to be able to get out of the seats and get onto the field."

But not only the field. They went to the bullpen for  a pitching lesson from coach Rich Dubee. Some even got to throw a few.

The clinic even went deep into the bowels of the clubhouse, where batting coaches Jimmy Williams and Milt Thompson were waiting at the tee.

The women get lunch, too.

"Baseball 101" has sold out four times now. In fact, it's become so popular that the Phillies have scheduled another one for August 26th.
