A suspended West Conshohocken constable was in court Friday to defend himself against allegations that he violated a court order that temporarily stripped him of his duties after he was charged with abusing his power.
Montgomery County prosecutors allege that 67-year-old Michael Solow was planning to continue working as a constable even though a judge barred him from doing so while he awaits trial. When Solow was arrested detectives seized his identification.
Prosecutors allege Solow contacted state authorities last month to request a new ID card saying his was misplaced. Defense attorney John McMahon says the prosecution is off-base:
“All he did in essence was request a document, a card that was proof of his educational requirement in preparations for the criminal trial which you know that’s going to be very important for a jury to hear about.”
The judge is expected to rule in about two weeks. If the judge finds Solow intended to use the card to continue working as a constable, he could send him to jail for up to 15 days.
