Mayor Nutter Honors Phila.'s Centenarians

by KYW’s Steve Tawa

Mayor Nutter sang happy birthday and helped cut a cake Friday with the oldest folks in Philadelphia - those over 100 - at an annual tribute to centenarians.

108-year old Anna Henderson, a longtime member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ took top honors at the oldest:

“I feel good, I feel blessed.”

Bobby Person is Anna's granddaughter, among five generations represented at the affair:

“My grandmother had eight children, 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.”

Anna still likes to work the kitchen:

“I can cook you know. My favorite food is collard greens.”

Mayor Nutter, at less than half her age, soaked up their wisdom:

“You certainly never meet a centenarian who has much stress. They're just totally chilled out and taking it easy. That may have been the best advice I got all day.”

Next to Anna was her baby sister, Lillian McClammy, about to turn 100.
