Javaun and Saymer

by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert

Ten-year-old Javaun says he and his six-year-old brother Saymer are a team:

(Javaun:)  "My brother, he's good.  Does his homework, plays with his toys, does good at school."
(Kane:)  "Do you take good care of him?"
(Javaun:)   "Yes."
(Kane:)  "Does he take good care of you?"
(Javaun:)  "Yes."

Big brother Javaun says he likes to help people and wants to be a teacher when he grows up.  He also lends a hand around the house.

(Javaun:)   "I sweep up, clean, wipe the counter top, make up beds."
(Kane:)  "So you're pretty helpful."
(Javaun:)  "Yeah."

How about the younger brother?  Six-year-old Saymer is a big "Spongebob" fan. He's a little shy but he says he looks up to his big brother:

(Kane:)  "What do you think of your brother -- is he a good guy?"
(Saymer:)  "Yes."
(Kane:)  "What do you like to do together?"
(Saymer:)  "Play."
(Kane:)  "What do you play?"
(Saymer:)  "Football."
(Kane:)  "Does he always win?"
(Saymer:)  "Sometimes."

The two boys are looking for a permanent family, and National Adoption Center spokeswoman Gloria Hochman says it's so important for the brothers to stay together:

"All they have is each other. That's all they've known. They so much want to stay together, and you can see the look of pride when the older one talks about the younger one.  Each is the other one's reason for being.  It would be so damaging if these children had to be separated."
