SEPTA transit police officers were still on the job as of Friday morning, amid a long-running contract dispute.
The 200 members of the Fraternal Order of Transit Police have been without a contract for two and a half years, in a dispute over wages.
The union met with a mediator yesterday and union head Richard Neal, Junior says his members are not going on strike -- yet:
"We made a little progress with the mediator. We let him know our list of demands, and what we expect out of him when he goes back and talks to the Authority."
SEPTA spokesman Richard Maloney says the union has rejected three tentative agreements already:
"We appreciate the efforts of the state mediator's office to talk to the union, and they and resolve this issue that has dragged on for much too long already."
Neal says a strike by transit police could come as soon as next week. Maloney says if there is a strike, supervisors and Philadelphia police would provide security.
