Another College Ditches Standardized Test Requirements

by KYW's Mark Abrams

Wake Forest University, one of the top tier schools in the country, is announcing plans to drop Standardized Admissions Tests as requirement for incoming students.

Wake Forest officials say they don’t consider the SAT or ACT tests to be the best predictors of a student’s academic performance.

Instead, the university admissions office says it will place more emphasis on a student’s academics and extracurricular activities, as well as personal interviews.

Edward of Wyncote says it’s about time:

“Yeah, I do think it’s a good idea because until you level the playing field in terms of the educational system, the schools, I think that’s the only way that you can do that is to look at it on an individual basis.”

There’s no indication Philadelphia area universities are considering such a move. And, one college admissions consultant says he doesn’t think the most selective schools in the nation will abandon the standardized test results anytime soon.
