Temple Assoc. for Retired Persons (TARP) Awarded $100K

by KYW's John McDevitt

A life long learning program for older adults at Temple University’s Center City campus has been awarded $100,000 in grant money.

There are about 700 retirees in the program most of whom are 60-years-old and older. They teach their own courses, attend seminars and take trips.

The $100,000 in grant money was awarded to the program by the Bernard Osher Foundation -- headquartered in San Francisco --seeking to improve the quality of life through its support of higher education and the arts.

William Parshall is the director of Temple's Center City campus:

"The money will enable us to expand our programming into senior centers, into retirement groups in Philadelphia and its near suburbs."

The Temple Association for Retired Persons (TARP) is one of the oldest and largest lifelong learning programs in the United States.
