Thinner, Faster, Cheaper: Apple Unveils Newest iPhone
|
by KYW's tech reporter Bob Bicknell
Apple has announced its successor to the iPhone. It's thinner and faster than its predecessor -- and less expensive.
It's called the iPhone 3G, and it’s the long awaited high-speed iPhone fans have been waiting for since the first was announced 18 months ago. The new iPhone features the speedier third generation internet connection -- hence its name -- and a thinner black plastic case. IPhone 3G also offers GPS location, and a greater battery life than its predecessor.
But it won't cost you nearly as much as the original iPhone. An eight gigabyte model will cost just $199, and a 16 gig white iPhone will cost $299. Each, of course, comes with an AT&T contract which will cost you $10 more a month.
If you want one you'll have to wait. The iPhone 3G won't be released to stores until July 11th -- about the same time current iPhone customers will get a free upgrade allowing them to install third party applications and games.
