Mayor Street’s brother Milton -- currently under federal indictment on fraud and tax evasion charges -- says he’s entering the race for the Democratic nomination for mayor of Philadelphia.
”I’m getting in the mayor’s race. I'm getting in to deal with this gun issue.”
Milton Street says he’s now collecting signatures to file nominating petitions for the May Democratic primary for mayor. He says after letting his younger brother John have the limelight as mayor for nearly eight years, now comes his turn:
“It’s only fair for me to allow him to go on and administrate. But he’s over. It's my time now. I’m back.”
Of course there’s that little matter of Milton Street’s upcoming trial on fraud and tax evasion charges:
“Those that got a problem with what the federal government did to me, go vote for somebody else. Vote for Watermelon Man. I don’t care.”
Milton Street also deflected questions about whether he actually lives in New Jersey:
“Do I have to live in Pennsylvania or do I have to be domiciled in Pennsylvania?”
(Dunn:) “Where do you live, sir?”
(Street:) “Well, is 'domiciled' and 'lived' synonymous? If they are, then I live in a Holiday Inn. I live wherever I sleep.”
He went on to say that he's always been domiciled in Philadelphia and has voted in Philadelphia for the last ten years.
