For one Montgomery County little girl, beating cancer was cause to celebrate but not by going to Disneyland. This special 5-year-old wanted to give back to the community by creating a cookbook to help sick children.
Patti Harr of North Wales says she knew something was wrong with her daughter Katie when her little girl was two years old:
"For about 3 or 4 weeks, she had severe back pain and eventually ended up not walking and stopped eating. I had asked for blood work to be done and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia discovered that she had Leukemia."
At the time, Patti was pregnant and she says the stress caused her to be on bed rest:
"So the two of us ended up watching a lot of the cooking shows on TV and reading a lot of cookbooks."
After chemotherapy, Katie went into remission. She sent letters to her favorite chefs and who donated recipes for her cookbook, the proceeds of which will go to children living with cancer.
Patti says Katie's 5 now, and she grew up a lot:
"She knows a lot about platelets and bone marrow and how the white blood cells attack the germs."
(Kuznits:) "She's gonna do very well in science."
"I think she will! She really has an interest in wanting to become a doctor, or a teacher, or a chef!"
