Could the high gas prices be driving students to their computers? Enrollment in online classes is on the rise.
Ken Hartman, academic director of Drexel University online services says online classes are becoming increasingly more popular:
We're seeing huge growth in online education both nationally, and certainly here at Drexel University online. We have seen our online student population grow in some cases 50, and recently 20 percent a year!"
He attributes the increase to students' desire to save time and money:
"Convenience -- people lead very, very busy lives and they don't have the time to find a place to park on a college campus, pay the gas, pay the tolls and pay the parking."
But he says before you sign up, you should know that online classes are just at challenging if not more so than classes you show up to in person:
"On campus, you can sit in the back of the class and choose to participate or not to participate! Online there's no place to hide."
