Philadelphia's Welcome America party kicks off Saturday night, leading up to the main event -- the 4th of July weekend. Will high gas prices keep people close to home for the holiday?
Meryl Levitz with the Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation expects a bigger crowd than last year participating in the city's Welcome America events:
"As we've seen, the trend is, people are staying home or closer to home, so Sunoco Welcome America will probably be even bigger than it normally is."
Geff Guaracino, also with GPTMC says this is the time of year when families flock to the area:
"Fourth of July is a big tourist season. It's a big draw for America. I mean, here, in Philadelphia, our backyard is where this country got started -- and this year for the presidential election as we talk about transfer of power, we talk about electing a new President and making history. You can come back to see where history was made, right here."
