Montco Man to Stand Trial in Firefighter Fraud Case

by KYW's Brad Segall

A North Wales, Pa. man has been ordered held for trial, accused of stealing hard-earned money from a dozen Philadelphia firefighters.

After a preliminary hearing, the judge ruled there’s enough evidence for Larry Harris, 44, to stand trial on theft and fraud charges. Prosecutors say he told the firefighters that for an initial investment of $2,500 apiece he would invest their money in tax-foreclosed properties and flip them turning huge profits. But prosecutor Bob Sander says he took their money and never paid off:

“These are hard-working blue collar people who are dedicated volunteers and public servants and they don’t have a lot of money for themselves working for the government and $2,500 is a significant sum for anybody, including these people.”

Harris told the firefighters that he invested their money in another company that was raided by the feds and they all lost money including him. Harris represented himself at the hearing. He remained free on bail as of Thursday.
