Specifics on Pennsylvania's Budget Remain Under Wraps

by KYW's Tony Romeo

Details of a proposed Pennsylvania budget remained scant on Wednesday, even as legislative leaders clung to hope that it could be voted on Thursday.

On Wednesday - more than two days after a budget agreement was reached in the early morning hours of Monday – Governor Rendell remained unapologetic about his refusal to divulge details of the spending plan (see previous stories):

“From the time a deal is made, until the time the budget’s submitted to me to be signed, there can be many hiccups – there can be many bubbling controversies that crop up. And you know, we don’t want to add any fuel to the fire.”

Throughout much of the day on Wednesday, legislative leaders continued to express their belief that work on the budget and related issues could be completed on Thursday. But that hope seemed to fade as the House session dragged into the evening, ending around 11:30pm following a half hour debate about whether the chamber should have continued debating past its 11pm curfew.
