A Zoning Vote Could Mean Another Atlantic City Casino

by KYW’s David Madden

A rezoning vote could come within a month on a 23-acre site at the northwest end of Atlantic City, New Jersey that could pave the way for a new casino. That’s just part of what could be a changing face for gaming down the shore.

Penn National Gaming is considering a tract of land along Route 30 -- away from the boardwalk and marina districts -- where oil tanks once stood.

According to spokesman Eric Schippers, that’s just one of the environmental issues the company’s looking into:

“If those were allowed to be there and were OK, we feel pretty comfortable. However, there is a process you have to go through.”

There are also wetlands and traffic concerns. Zoning changes could come within a month.

But Penn National’s also in the bidding for Bader Field, the former municipal airport and arguably the most valuable piece of land in Atlantic City maybe the state. RFP’s for developers are expected to go out by the end of August.
