There's been another so-called "splash and grab" robbery, in which a robber throws a hot drink at a convenience store worker to carry out the crime.
The latest one happened at 1am Wednesday morning at a Wawa convenience store in Magnolia (Camden County), NJ.
Police say the robber got a cup of coffee, approached the counter, then threw the coffee at the store employee, grabbed money from the register, and fled to a car. The cashier suffered burns and was treated at a hospital and released.
There have been at least 19 similar crimes in the tri-state area since February 7th, and police believe the same men are responsible for many of them.
The robbers have not been identified, but police have pretty good descriptions based on video surveillance from one Philadelphia robbery (see related story).
And now there's something new from this latest robbery. Capt. John Gallagher is with the Philadelphia Police Department's major crimes unit:
"There was a black male described as wearing 'cat eye' contacts, which is almost like a Halloween contact. He had a light complexion and he was wearing a grey hoodie. And he fled on foot to an auto which was parked down the street, but we don't have any information on the auto."
Some similar crimes, authorities feel, are copycat crimes. In one robbery in Yeadon last weekend, a robber threw bleach at the cashier. There have been numerous injuries to victims, and police fear someone could be blinded if these robbers aren't caught soon.
If you have information on these crimes you are urged to call the major crimes unit at 215-686-3396. There is a reward.
